Inspired by the rich folk art traditions of Mexico, and shaped by our many visits to the Museo de Arte Popular in Mexico City, Annie’s Tree of Life paintings are her way of gathering a place into a single, living form. They are part storytelling, part celebration, and always deeply personal.

This piece turns its focus to San Francisco.

At the center, a flowering tree holds together the many layers of the city we know and love. The Golden Gate Bridge and Bay Bridge stretch across the horizon. Painted Ladies line up beneath a bright arc of rainbow. Sutro Tower rises through the fog, while Coit Tower, the Transamerica Pyramid, and the windmills of Golden Gate Park anchor the landscape.

Look closer and the story deepens. A parrot flashes color through the branches. A pelican stands watch by the water. Sea lions, shorebirds, butterflies, and a grazing bison all find their place here. There’s a nod to the 49 Mile Scenic Drive, a passing cargo ship in the bay, a perfectly poured cocktail, and even a familiar little statue tucked into the mix.

It’s San Francisco in all its layers, natural beauty, odd charm, iconic landmarks, and the small, specific details that make it feel like home.
